When we became annual pass holders at Disneyland last February, we went to the park on quite a few rainy days. We learned very quickly how awesome rainy days at Disneyland are! I actually purposely plan our trips for days when there is rain in the forecast because we are able to get so much more done on those rainy days. While rainy days are my favorite, I know they can be intimidating! I want to share my best rainy day tips for anyone worried about going to Disneyland in the rain, and to convince you of just how worthwhile it is!
Plan Ahead!
A rainy day at Disneyland is only amazing if you plan ahead! Here are the things I recommend purchasing ahead of your trip to have the best experience.
Stroller cover
Ponchos
Kid’s rain boots
Women’s rain boots
Kid’s rain coat
Women’s rain coat
In addition, pack an extra pair of socks for everyone in your group, and wear layers! I also highly recommend bringing a diaper bag that has a water resistant exterior. On our most recent trip it was raining SO hard and this diaper bag from Petunia Picklebottom handled it like a champ! Everything inside stayed completely dry.
Covered Rides
There are plenty of line queues at Disneyland that are mostly, or entirely, covered and protected from the elements. Here are a few of our favorite rides to frequent in the rain:
Peter Pan
Dumbo
Carousel
Finding Nemo
Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters
Ferry Boat
Jungle Cruise
Tiki Room
Grown Up Rides with Covered Queues
Space Mountain
Star Tours
Indiana Jones
Millenium Falcon
Covered Attractions
There are also plenty of indoor shows, attractions, meet and greets, and places to hang out while you wait for the rain to let up! Here are some of our favorite places to beat the rain when it gets too heavy:
Mickey and Minnie’s houses
Meet the Princesses
Sleeping Beauty Castle walkthrough
Shopping in New Orlean’s district
Golden Horseshoe Piano Dueling
Storytelling (only if it’s not raining too heavily)
Star Wars Launch Bay
Shopping on Main Street (most of the stores connect inside)
Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln
Fire Station on Main Street
Covered Restaurants
A lot of the quick service restaurants offer covered patios and seating to take a break in while you grab some food! These are our favorite restaurants that are also protected from the rain:
Galactic Grill
The Hungry Bear
Red Rose Tavern
Golden Horseshoe
Why is it SO Great?!
The reason I plan our trips around rainy days at Disneyland is the overall lack of crowds! Even during a busier time of year, the park will empty out if there is a sign of poor weather. We are able to go on so many more rides and meet more characters with practically no wait times. We are able to do whatever we want, whenever we want, a rare occasion at Disneyland! It is absolutely worth it to me to go on a rainy day at Disneyland, and if you come prepared and know where to go to make the most of your day, you will think so too!
