DIY Essential Oil Baby Diaper Rash Cream

Today I want to share this recipe for essential oil baby dipaer rash cream! I’ve always used Baby Boudreaux’s Butt Paste and Desitin for diaper rashes but after doing some research on the Think Dirty app I was really surprised at the ingredients in both creams! Boudreaux’s contains a petroleum jelly that can actually cause irritation and itchiness–which is so counterintuitive! Desitin contains an antimicrobial preservative that is a potential neurotoxin and can cause dehydration in infants, and another ingredient that can cause itchiness and redness of skin in some individuals. After finding this out, I quickly ditched our old diaper creams and hit Pinterest for some DIY options!

There are a lot of recipes for diaper rash cream online, I tried one and made a few tweaks to improve the consistency and texture. This cream does turn out fairly greasy, but it doesn’t bother me too much. As a plus, you can also use this as hand and body lotion so make a lot and use it for everything!

DIY Essential Oil Baby Butt Paste
-1/2 cup coconut oil (solid)
-1/2 cup unrefined shea butter (I buy mine here)
-10 drops lavender essential oil
-10 drops frankincense essential oil
-10 drops gentle baby essential oil (optional)

Bring a pot of water to a boil. Place a saucepan on top of the pot and melt the coconut oil and shea butter until liquid. When everything has liquified, transfer mix to a bowl and stick in the freezer for 10-20 minutes or until solidified but not hardened. Add the essential oils. Using a stand or hand mixer, whip the mix into a cream (could take 3-4 minutes). Store in sealable jars and keep at room temperature! This clears up diaper rashes in hours, and is great for healing dry skin.

Both the lavender and frankincense oils comes in your Premium Starter Kit from Young Living! Click here to learn more and sign up to join me on this essential oils journey!
