This quarantine and lack of desire to go to the grocery stores apparently turns me into quite the Martha Stewart. Last week I made my own laundry detergent (WHAT) and got a big response when I shared on my Instagram! I figured I would share the recipe here as well so you can pin and save it for later!

Ingredients
-1 bar Kirk’s castile soap
-2/3 cup washing soda
-2 cups boiling water
-3 tbsp baking soda
-essential oils (optional)
Directions
- Cut the bar of castile soap into thin slivers. Melt using the double boiler method on the stove, or in 30 second intervals in the microwave. Set aside.
- Pour the washing soda into a large mixing bowl. Slowly add the boiling water and stir until dissolved.
- Add the melted castile soap and baking soda, and mix thoroughly.
- Once completely cooled, add 10-20 drops of essential oils.
- Store in a large glass container!
After using this laundry detergent for a few weeks, I really really like it! The only thing is that the essential oils don’t leave a very strong scent on the clean clothes. If you want a stronger “clean laundry” scent, try this DIY dryer ball spray recipe!
