We have officially been in our home for one year! It’s crazy because it feels so much like OUR home, even though we’re only renting and will be gone when my husband finishes school. But we really love it and feel so blessed to be here for another year!
Let’s talk about my home office for a quick sec! I have hated this room over the past year for a few reasons–first off, we couldn’t decide what this room was going to be! It started off as Jared’s office, turned into a gun room, then a guest bedroom, and we finally settled on it being my office a few months ago. Secondly, it has one small window that is blocked by our neighbors house so it tends to feel like a cave compared to the rest of our home. Third, it was constantly messy, nothing matched, and everything felt very stressful!
To let you in on what this room was like pre-reveal, here are some terrifying before photos…
BEFORE
They literally make me shudder! No wonder I couldn’t focus or get anything done in here, there was no space or storage so things piled up and were constantly unorganized.
One day I decided I’d had enough, and sat down to make a plan. I went to IKEA, spent about $25, and came home with some new organizers.
It was a good start, but the desk we had was very short and narrow and there just wasn’t a good way to make it work. I bought some of my favorite contact paper on Amazon to lighten it up and make it feel bigger, but I also started looking around for a new desk.
If you know me, you know how much I love to thrift my furniture! Not a single piece of furniture that we own has been purchased the traditional way, from a retailer. I thrift it all! Well I stopped by my favorite Goodwill and found this ginormous, beautiful desk for $20. I took one look at it and figured it was too big to fit in my car, so I snapped a picture, said a tearful goodbye, and moved on.
When I got home I showed the picture to my husband and he got oddly excited about it. He usually doesn’t care for my finds but he was super bummed we weren’t able to score this desk.
Two days later my dad was in town and we decided to stop by Goodwill without the kids just to see if the desk was still there. And by some miracle IT WAS! And it was half-off day, so we scored this beauty for only $10. We had to rope it into my car since the trunk wouldn’t close and I made my dad drive it home, but it was WORTH IT.
Once we got the desk in the room the rest came together pretty quickly. The top was originally cherry brown so I covered it in white marble contact paper and love the difference it made!
You can see everything in the next several photos! I will go over specifics and details of everything else at the bottom of this post!
