How I Really Feel About Blogging

I totally used to be that person who looked at bloggers on Instagram and Pinterest and thought “gee that must be nice, just taking pictures all day long and living the dream.” I really had no idea how much time and work went into blogging! Having been at it for about 8 months, I know I was very mistaken about what it takes to be a blogger.

So how do I feel about blogging NOW? Here are my top five thoughts about my experience with blogging:

  1. I have met some amazing people. Everywhere you look on Instagram there are motivational women and mothers who are working so hard to accomplish their goals. I know some really incredible women who have helped me grow immensely and who I can count on to give me advice or support when I ask for it.
  2. I’ve realized the value of my opinion. People really do care about what I have to say! I put off blogging for so long because I didn’t think I was creative enough, crafty enough, or a good enough cook. I didn’t think anyone would be interested in what I had to say. Turns out, I have my own perspective that is unique to anyone else’s and people really value that! I’ve also realized that I love writing about pregnancy and motherhood, and the topics that I write about are ones that other women want to read about.
  3. My self-confidence has sky rocketed. Prior to starting a blog, I’m pretty sure I never posted a picture of myself alone on social media. I was nervous about what others would think, and I felt so uncomfortable in front of the camera by myself. Thanks to an amazing photographer husband and a lot of practice, I no longer feel anxious or awkward posing in front of the camera (most of the time lol) and I feel confident posting a photo of myself for thousands of people to see and comment on.
  4. My drive has increased. While this started out as a hobby, I really have the passion to take my blog full time and turn it into something big. I work very hard for several hours everyday trying to build and grow and network so I can reach the next level. I am seriously motivated, and feel like I am contributing something of value to the blogging community.
  5.  This isn’t just a game. I have come to realize how much of an impact blogging has had on the lives of so many people. Companies use bloggers as sources of advertising, readers turn to blogs for advice or ideas, and a lot of people have turned blogging into a full time job that supports their families. For some people blogging is a hobby, but for everyone it requires a lot of time, effort, and energy to keep going.

I have so much respect for those who have been blogging for years and who have turned their blogs into full time jobs! I hope one day to take mine full time and I wish I had gotten in the game earlier than I did. Just remember it’s never all free stuff and beautiful pictures, behind every blog is someone working very hard to reach goals and provide readers with amazing content! Thanks so much for reading along, I hope you learned something from this post!

I especially love your point about realizing the value of your opinion through blogging. It’s so true! I started my own blog recently as a way to organize and catalogue my thoughts, but it’s amazing how many other women are out there doing the same thing, and it’s so relatable. Sharing ups and downs of real life is refreshing, as is having a platform to voice your opinion and help others while you’re at it. The sense of community is also a big one. Case in point – I found your blog through searching “motherhood” hashtags on Instagram, as I prepare to become a mom for the first time in August!

Anyway, I love your blog and I admire the work you’ve put into it. Keep it up xx
