How to Get a Free Breast Pump, Hassle Free!

I am SO excited to share this experience I had with you all today! As we get closer to meeting baby girl, I want to make sure I have everything I need, and one thing I still needed to look into was getting a free pump from my insurance company (breast pumps usually only have a life span of 2-3 years, so it was time for me to get a new one).

When I was pregnant with Reagan, I was really worried about being able to get a breast pump for free through my insurance. People kept telling me it was possible, but I was really skeptical. I remember asking my OB about it when I was around 28 weeks pregnant and he told me that I had to wait until AFTER the baby was born to even talk about it. After Reagan was born, I called my OB and he filled out a prescription and sent it to me. I took the prescription to the ONE place in town that my insurance partnered with where I was shown two different breast pumps. They were the same brand, one model was a single, manual pump which was covered 100% by my insurance, the other model was the fancy electric double pump that I’d have to pay a portion of. I remember standing in that store with Jared and a newborn baby, barely able to walk since I was still recovering, and super sore because my baby nursed all the time and I had low milk supply. I ended up paying the difference to get the fancy pump and went home just happy that the whole ordeal was over.

Anyone else have an experience similar to this one? Being a first time mom is hard enough not knowing what is going on with your body and already having talked to insurance providers on the daily for months. I really wish I had known about Bump Benefits back then because I really could have used the extra help!

Bump Benefits is a 100% free resource for new and expecting mothers to receive a breast pump for free through their insurance. I was so amazed at how much easier the process is for receiving a free pump through Bump Benefits is than trying to do it myself. All you do is follow these three easy steps and you have a new pump shipped to you for free!

  1. Fill out the form on Bump Benefits website to see if your insurance will cover the cost of a breast pump for you.
  2. Decide which pump you’d like! I was given EIGHT different options, all with varying qualities and features. There are several 100% free options, and a couple higher end options that you have to pay a small fee for.
  3. Bump Benefits contacts your insurance company on your behalf to ensure you receive your free pump. Once everything is approved, the pump you selected is shipped to you for free!

This whole process took me about five minutes to complete. I did it at home without having to call my insurance company or ask my doctor for a prescription. A representative from Bump Benefits contacted me via email the next day with an update on my order. I was seriously in shock the whole time and kept asking the rep, “that’s all I have to do?” “Do you need any more information from me?” “I just pick whichever one I want?!” What a huge blessing it has been to have one less thing to worry about when baby girl gets here! I highly encourage all new and expecting moms to check out this service, even if you’ve already purchased a breast pump, you may still qualify for a second free one from your insurance company!
