Maui was an absolute dream! I have never been to a more beautiful and diverse place and I already cannot wait to go back.
We stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Lahaina and I HIGHLY recommend it! We were upgraded to a “partial ocean view” room and as you can see from the first picture, our view was incredible! We could see the mountains from one end of our balcony and the ocean and beach from the other. (And as an added bonus our room was right above the courtyard where they held the luau, so we got to watch the show for free every night!). There are penguins and various birds in the lobby which is fun for kids, and everything is open air and looks out over the amazing pools and beach.
The first few days were rough for our family though! Reagan developed a cold and pink eye and was just miserable, Jared was getting migraines every few hours, and I started to get mastitis (I’m trying to wean Reagan), so most of our time was spent on the phone with doctors and running back and forth to the local pharmacy. Reagan was so tired she was taking 3 hour long naps and Jared and I were asleep by 9pm every night.
Luckily we all cleared up and were able to enjoy the pool and beach a little more by the end of the week! I think my favorite outing from this trip was to the Nakalele blowhole. It was a 30 minute drive north from our resort through winding mountain roads and jungle overlooking rocky cliffs and the ocean. Seriously BEAUTIFUL. We pulled off the road and started hiking down the lava rock and about halfway down it started pouring down rain! We were so soaked it looked like we had gone swimming. Not wanting to get stuck on the cliffs with Reagan, we retreated back to the car until the rain stopped and we were able to get out and take some pictures. These photos don’t even begin to capture how insanely beautiful it was!
Another fun thing is we were walking down this path that connects the beaches to the resorts and we saw sea turtles! I was really bummed about not being able to snorkel on this trip but seeing the turtles made up for that! It’s crazy how big some of them are and how well they blend in with the rocks.
I’ll post Part II of our trip in a couple days, and also our itinerary for anyone interested!
