Mindful Engineering Playhouse Makeover!

I am so happy to share my latest project and accomplishment with you today! I found this playhouse from Mindful Engineering about a month ago and I instantly fell in love, the cute windowpanes and flower boxes just called to me. Also, I loved all the potential for a makeover! The pieces all come as natural wood so I knew it would be easy to paint it however I wanted. Read on for all the details and steps on how I did this Mindful Engineering playhouse makeover!

What I Did

I actually had a gallon of this paint lying around for when I get around to starting on the kitchen reno (read more about that HERE) and I thought this would be a great way to get accustomed to how the paint goes on and how our paint rollers and brushes work. Upon reflection, I should have used a paint + primer all in one or a primer before painting it would have cut my work load significantly!

Everything was completed in only 36 hours, so even with painting three coats on the exterior it was a really fast project. I only did one coat on the interior since I figured it would get dirty anyways, and at that point I was over painting and just ready to put it all together! The trim and front door came pre-painted black which was a nice step and saved me a trip to the paint store.

After painting, I was able to build the whole thing by myself! The holes were all pre drilled and the instructions were clear and easy to follow. It took about 2 hours for me to build on my own, and I’m very slow. If I had my husband there it probably would have only taken 20 minutes!

Then came the fun part…decorating! The front porch is our dining table turned headboard turned playhouse front stoop. We built it years ago out of a piece of plywood and 2x4s and it makes the perfect floor to this playhouse! I will link to everything else I used to decorate it for Christmas, below:

While I loved our plastic playhouse makeover, I am truly in love with this Mindful Engineering playhouse makeover! The feeling of satisfaction I got after doing the entire thing on my own was amazing. And I love when the kids run up to me and tell me how happy they are with their new house! I hope they love it for as long as I love decorating it!
