I am SO excited to share this service with you guys today! I learned about SingleCare a couple of months ago and have been really impressed with my membership and the services they offer. This is a resource that everyone (but especially moms!) can utilize to save money on prescriptions and routine healthcare and dental care for themselves and their family.
What is SingleCare? SingleCare is a resource that allows members to save money on prescriptions, dental, vision, and virtual doctor’s visits. Membership is free, and you save money when using your SingleCare card to fill a prescription or seeing a partnered SingleCare provider.
How Does it Save You Money? SingleCare is not insurance, it’s designed to cut costs for people paying for services out of pocket, or for those who want a cheaper supplement to their insurance. For example, our current health insurance plan through Jared’s work has a crazy high deductible that we’ll likely never meet. I needed to fill a prescription for Elliott last month, so I used SingleCare at our Walgreen’s pharmacy to lower our out of pocket cost for the prescription. It was more cost effective for us, since it’s unlikely that we will meet our $11,000 deductible before we change plans in 3 months (don’t even get me started on our ridiculous plan).
How do I Know What’s Covered? The SingleCare website allows you to search for specific medications and doctors individually, and then shows you the cost of services and medication based on location/pharmacy! I can type in “zofran” aka anti nausea medication and it tells me how much I’ll pay at Walmart vs Walgreens vs CVS. Some medications or services include a coupon that lowers your cost further, and it shows you how much money you save by going through SingleCare. It showed me that a routine dental visit at several locations nearby would cost me $61 instead of $104, and that an eye exam at Walmart is my cheapest option.
What if I Want to See a Doctor? Virtual doctor’s visits are one of the greatest things to happen to busy parents! When we were in Hawaii two years ago, Reagan got pink eye and I got mastitis in the same day and our health insurance wasn’t accepted anywhere outside of Texas. We had access to a virtual doctor’s appointment through my mom’s insurance where we were able to get prescriptions written for both of us immediately, without having to pay for an urgent care or ER visit. SingleCare offers virtual doctor’s visits for only $45, which is actually less than our current copay for a PCP visit! This is an excellent resource for mild illnesses or conditions that can be diagnosed via video call.
How do I Get Started? You can follow this link to sign up for this free membership! There are no ongoing fees or hidden costs, everything is spelled out plainly and you know exactly what you’re getting when you access your dashboard!
This is one of those things that I wish I had known about years ago, when Reagan was a baby and we were paying for sick child doctor’s visits every couple of weeks and expensive antibiotics to treat all the first year bugs she caught. I am very much looking forward to utilizing this resource to help us save on our healthcare costs when Jared starts school, and for years to come! Our family has already benefited from SingleCare, and the free membership makes it worth checking out for everyone!
