Things I’m Doing Differently to Prepare for Baby #2

It’s crazy to me that this pregnancy is already coming to a close! Only 9 more weeks until baby girl gets here and it’s amazing how differently I’m feeling about everything. Here are some things that I’m doing differently to prepare for this baby and pregnancy as compared to the first time around.

  1. I’m not as worried about needing things. I think I started buying baby gear when I was 12 weeks pregnant with Reagan, and I’d buy at least one thing a week not including baby clothes. I bought a swing, a pack n’ play, a car seat, two different strollers, two baby wrap carriers, a diaper genie, closet organizers, and literally everything else on those lists of “must have baby items.” This time around I’ve purchased one five pack of white onesies and that’s literally it. I need to buy a car seat and a new baby bath tub but other than that we are reusing everything from the first time around.
  2. I’m focusing more on enjoying the last stages of pregnancy and less on what labor will be like. The first time I was so anxious about knowing when I was going to go into labor and trying to get there as soon as possible that I didn’t take the time to just enjoy being pregnant. Now that I’ve been through it and kind of know what to expect, I’m trying to focus more on enjoying the time we have left as a family of three (and on getting a full nights sleep).
  3. I’m looking towards small shops for the things I do need. Now that I’ve become more active on Instagram, I’ve been able to find and connect with some amazing moms who started their own businesses to support their sweet families. I found these adorable burp cloths and bibs from the shop @howstitchingcute, and not only are her prints super cute but they are also really affordable!
  4. I’m not as worried about schedules. I read every book I could find on getting baby on a sleep schedule pretty much as soon as they entered this world, and Reagan still didn’t sleep through the night for 14 months. This time I’m going to let baby girl dictate the flow of things and not be as worried about getting her on a strict schedule right away.
  5. I’m planning professional photo shoots for the delivery and for the hospital. I would have loved to have professional photos taken of Reagan in the hospital but I just assumed we couldn’t afford it so all of our pictures of her were taken on our cell phones. We did get a video of her being born which was really cool, but I would have loved having a photographer there to capture those first moments of life as well. This time, I made it a priority and started looking for photographers early on so we could find someone with the style I wanted and felt comfortable being in the room with us. I feel lucky to have found Sara of Honest Abel Photography, I’ll be doing a post with more details of what we have planned soon but I am SO excited for this shoot.

Alright moms of multiples, what do you think of this list? What things did you do differently to prepare for baby #2?
