I said I had big news coming this week and here it is! We are moving to Henderson, NV! Jared was accepted into a Master’s program that starts this summer, and we are so excited for this progress and new adventure for our family.
We are sad to be leaving San Antonio, as we’ve made a lot of really good friends and connections here–not to mention the scenery is a little bit better than in Vegas 😉 But we have been waiting for two years to take the next step with Jared’s education, and we are thrilled that he was accepted somewhere his first year of applying. It feels good to be progressing again, and getting closer to him starting a career and eventually buying a home and doing all the grown up things.
When I think about how all of this came about, I can’t help but recognize the hand of the Lord in this move for our family. As a little background, Jared applied to 12 different PA schools and was only receiving rejections–lots of schools said he needed more classes, some said they just had too many applicants, and some were just flat out “no’s”. Our lease was up in February, and we opted to go month to month until we heard from every last PA school, but our lease only permits month to month for 60 days AND requires a 30 day move out notice. So, we had until March 12 (which happens to be TODAY) to decide whether we would be moving out of our apartment complex or signing another lease. Kind of a tough decision when you’re waiting to hear back from grad schools.
We had started looking at rental homes in San Antonio in case we had to stay another year, but Jared and I both felt like we needed to just be patient and not jump into anything. We prayed for help making a decision every night, and we both kept getting the reassuring feeling to just stay put. As a type A personality planner, this is not a feeling I usually get so I was extra aware of how calm I felt about everything.
Towards the end of January, I was nursing Elliott in the mother’s lounge at church when another mom in the room told me about a Masters to PA bridge program that her brother in law was doing in Las Vegas. She told me she would contact him and get me more info in case we wanted to consider that. Ten minutes later, another mom walked into the room and mentioned her husband was also looking into a Master’s of Health Science program to boost his application for grad school. The next day, I coincidentally ran into a friend at the park and she told me that her husband completed a similar Master’s before starting his dental program. In less than 24 hours, three people had all happened to tell me about this Master’s program that I had never heard of before.
I hurriedly called Jared and had him look into it. He called the school and found out that they were still accepting applications, so he hustled and submitted his application just days later. We waited for about a month before finally getting confirmation that he was one of sixty students accepted into the program. We got the news four days before having to make a decision about our lease.
We are so grateful that this is the next step for our family! We will be a short four hour drive from my parents and a five hour drive from all of Jared’s extended family. Jared is so motivated and eager to start school again after 2 years off and has serious goals for his future as a PA. We’re fairly familiar with the Vegas area, and are so happy that this is where we will be living for the next several (hopefully!) years!
If any of you live in the Vegas/Henderson area I would love to connect! We don’t have any friends out that way and I feel like that’s always the hardest part about moving to a new area. I can’t wait for this new chapter in our lives, and I am excited to bring you along this new adventure with us!
Congratulations on your new journey!!!
