Playroom Reveal!

I started making plans for this room as soon as we signed our lease for this house! Since we’re renting, we can’t do much to permanently alter anything, but I had some ideas for how to brighten this space up and make it functional as a playroom. I was so excited to have a designated space for toys, and to not have to cram everything into a corner of our living room anymore!

Here is the before picture of the room, taken from an old listing for this house.
As you can see, it’s a LOT of brown and yellow tones! I personally cannot stand anything beige or brown, and the walls are actually white but you can’t tell because of the brown tile and carpet!

And here is the after shot! I can’t believe how much these few changes impacted the entire look of the room!

I knew first off that I wanted to add some removable wallpaper to that giant wall! I originally wanted to go with something really bold, but settled for this shiplap style that will go with all our seasonal decor and still be super trendy! I decided to get ours from Rocky Mountain Wall Decals, they’re prices are very reasonable and the quality is ahhhhmazing! I was actually shocked when I unrolled everything and felt how thick and high quality the wallpaper is. This won’t just cover our walls, it will act as a barrier from messy kids and protect the wall from damage!

Applying the wallpaper was pretty simple–my husband and I did it together which made it go much quicker! Our walls are VERY textured and painted glossy, but this wallpaper still went on fairly smooth and you can’t see any major wrinkles or air bubbles. It was easy to cut around outlets and light switches, and to trim the last piece to fit our wall. Everything you need for application is included with your wallpaper to make it as easy and straightforward as possible! Now I’m contemplating which room I want to cover next… šŸ™‚

Once I decided on the shiplap, I wanted to keep the farmhouse trend going while still being modern and fun since it’s a playroom. The next step for me was figuring out what to do with the fireplace. I read about tile stickers that have fun designs and just cover each individual tile, but our tiles are huge and weird dimensions so having custom made stickers would be pretty expensive. Instead, I went on Amazon and bought this black contact paper for $8 and this white marble contact paper for $9! I used the black to cover the thin gold strips and I just applied the white marble in sheets over the tile and grout and it looks SO good! Way better than the ugly brown! The best part is that it took so little effort, it will come right off when we eventually move out, and it cost me $26 total (1 roll of black and 2 rolls of marble)!

I added some fun artwork from Paper Llamas because I could not resist that baby panda! The print is on super thick canvas and is really high quality, I liked it so much that I ordered a different print from her shop for Elliott’s room too!

The alpaca head is from Heartfelt Creations and my girls are in love with it! When it came in the mail neither one of them could stop hugging it and kissing it and wanting to carry it around, they were pretty bummed when I put it on the wall! I love the little tassels, and I think it gives the room such a fun little pop.

Rug: from Lorena Canals and is machine washable!
Essential Oils shelf: my dad and I made this (okay mostly my dad) but I think I’ll post a DIY tutorial since it was pretty easy to do! You can also purchase one from Tucker Design Co here.
Organization bins and baskets: the colorful baskets are from the dollar spot at Target, they have tons right now for back to school classrooms! The floor baskets are from Ross, and the giant toy box basket is a Goodwill find!
Kid’s Table: from Urban Mod! This was a Christmas present for Reagan 2 years ago and we love this table so much!
Wall art print: I made this! I am more than happy to share, just email me if you want a digital copy and I can send it your way.
