10 Things Summer Edition

I know everyone and their mom is saying this but I cannot believe that summer is almost over!! With the move and Jared starting school and everything going on in our personal lives it feels like summer went by in the literal blink of an eye. We have a couple more fun things planned for Reagan’s birthday this month, but I’m also so ready for a change of weather and scenery and home decor (bring on the pumpkins!). Here’s a little update of what we’ve been up to, and what we have going on for the duration of summer!

Photos taken by Lauren Gerek Photography. She did such a good job on our lifestyle home photos and I highly recommend her to my Las Vegas area friends!

  1. We looooooove being closer to family now! I’m driving the kids down to my parent’s house in San Diego next month and we’re starting to plan some trips to visit Jared’s extended family in Utah during fall. If you haven’t seen Utah in the fall you are seriously missing out!
  2. I’m loving being a stay at home/work at home mom. It’s astounding how much more I can get done in a day when I don’t have to go to work every night. My house is actually clean every night before bed, I plan more fun outings with my kids, I make dinner like 70% of the time (up from about 40% haha), but most noticeably I am so. much. happier. Don’t get me wrong, I loved my job in Texas and I’ve only been doing this for about 6 weeks, but this is definitely the life and role that I’m cut out for.
  3. I’m on a mission to simplify our home. We sold a lot of stuff before moving out here, but having a whole house to decorate makes me tempted to fill it with as much stuff as will possibly fit. I’ve been doing a lot of research into how physical objects and their frequencies can negatively affect our mood–it’s not as wonky as it sounds! It’s been very interesting and I’m motivated to cut down on the objects we have to create a more open and calming space to live in!
  4. I’m rewatching Once Upon a Time on Netflix because it’s one of my favorite T.V. shows ever! If you haven’t watched it yet I highly recommend it!!
  5. Reagan is officially 100% out of diapers! We waited a long time to nap and night train her because I didn’t want to be changing sheets in the middle of the night when I was up with a  baby every few hours anyways, so we started night training this week and Reagan got it after only 2 nights! I’m so proud of her!
  6. I found a gluten free, dairy free, nut free cookie that actually tastes good! It’s this one from Enjoy Life and the chocolate chip ones don’t last long around here.
  7. The only time I don’t wear these sandals is when we go to church, they are hands down the best summer investment I’ve made! Comfy, affordable, and they go with everything. And I’ll probably be able to wear them until November because it stays warm here forever!
  8. I found an Ikea kids kitchen at our Goodwill for $17 and it’s going to be Reagan’s birthday present! I’m upcycling it and making it cute with a backsplash and new counter tops and I’m so excited to give it to her. Whenever we go somewhere that has a play kitchen she spends the whole time playing there, so I know she’s going to love this!
  9. Another surprise that we’re planning around Reagan’s birthday is a trip to Disneyland! I’m keeping it a secret this time because she’s old enough to understand what “going to see the mouse” means and I can’t wait to see how excited she gets when I finally tell her. Elliott is older this time too so I think everyone will have a great time!
  10. Since my husband is at school for 14-15 hours a day, 6 days a week, I’ve had to learn how to do a lot of new things by myself. This week alone I unclogged our disposal, changed out our license plates, rented a Rug Doctor and shampooed our carpets, changed our air filters, replaced a rug under our huge bed, and took off some cabinet doors. I know that doesn’t sound very impressive, but normally I’d ask Jared to do all of that so I’m pretty proud of myself for taking on these new jobs.
  11. BONUS: I’ve been doing a lot more shopping from PinkBlush lately! I love that their styles transition so easily from maternity, to nursing friendly, to mom life fashion. This mint tie front top is SO darling, I love the mint color, the nursing friendly buttons, and the bell sleeve. They just released a toddler line too, and I’m so excited to show you the dress I got for Reagan in a post next week!

I can’t wait to bring you along on all of our adventures and show you the progress we’re making in our home, this summer has been so great! Thanks for reading and following along!
