Easy Skillet Apple Pie

Okay I really really really love to bake, but I’ve never actually made an apple pie before! We aren’t normally big pie people, but I hate missing out on seasonal experiences so I decided I was going to give it a try this year!

I took our girls apple picking a couple weeks ago and it was so much fun! I had never been before, and we went a little late in the season but were still able to bring home a whole bag of picked apples. My girls loved searching for the best apples, and placing them ever so gently (lol, not) in our bag. If you’re in the Vegas area, we went to Gilcrease orchard and we will definitely be going back again!

One day when the girls were simultaneously napping (rare, since Reagan doesn’t nap much anymore) I decided I was going to bake this pie! I went to get my pie pan out and realized…we donated it before moving from Texas and hadn’t gotten a new one yet. So I hopped online and started looking for ways to bake a pie in a cast iron skillet!

Turns out it’s super easy! I found a recipe and made some adjustments as I went, and I really liked how it turned out!

Now let me say that I didn’t make my own pie crust, this one is 100% store bought but it was still delicious and I’m glad I did it this way! Props to you if you have a bomb sauce pie crust recipe, but I definitely haven’t mastered that yet lol.

Cast Iron Skillet Apple Pie

Ingredients:
-2 to 3lbs. of Granny Smith Apples
-1/3 cup butter
-1/3 cup brown sugar
-1/2 cup granulated sugar
-1 tsp cinnamon
-1 package refrigerated pie crusts

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Slice apples and set aside.
2. Melt butter and brown sugar in skillet on medium heat. Remove pan and set aside.
3. In a separate bowl mix the sliced apples with granulated sugar and cinnamon.
4. Place one pie crust in the skillet over the melted butter and sugar mix. Spoon the apple mixture on top and spread evenly. Place the other pie crust on top and cut slits to release steam. Alternatively, you can use a cookie cuter to create some fun shapes and use those as the top crust!
5. Bake for 60-70 minutes or until evenly golden. Allow to cool before serving!
