I swore when we moved here that I was done with DIYing furniture and upcycling old pieces because I didn’t have time and we didn’t have space for more stuff. But here we are today with me revealing a dresser makeover that I did last week because it was just too good to pass up!
You won’t believe how much I paid for this dresser…a whopping $7.91. You read that right! I got this huge, solid wood, full of potential dresser for SEVEN FREAKIN DOLLARS. I saw it at our Goodwill and knew I couldn’t let it go!
Our current T.V. stand was a little short for our T.V., I knew I wanted something longer but it definitely wasn’t at the top of our priority list. I like using old dressers as T.V. stands because of all the hidden storage, so I had been perusing Facebook marketplace and garage sale sites but didn’t see anything at a price that I liked.
When I went to Goodwill, it was actually to pick up a desk for my husband’s office that I scored earlier in the day for less than $5 (I really don’t understand why people buy new furniture haha). I knew the length was perfect and after seeing what good shape it was in, I decided I had one more DIY project in me.
I did a poll on my Instagram for what color I should paint it and it came back tied for navy blue and gray. I was leaning towards the blue because we have a lot of neutral browns and grays in the room already, and since the dresser was so inexpensive I decided to just go for it!
The paint I used is called Starless Night from Behr! The first step was to prime the whole dresser with this primer (it’s my favorite because it covers any surface), then I put two coats of the paint on and it was good to go! The whole project took me less than a day to finish!
I am sooooo obsessed with how it turned out! I originally painted it a lighter blue but didn’t like how blue it was so went back to Home Depot for the darker color. I’m so glad I did because I think it looks amazing now!
I originally wanted to spray paint the hardware gold, but the handles are literally bolted to the drawers and can’t be removed. I think it looks okay as brass so I’m fine with how it worked out!
I also left the very bottom trim of the dresser the original brown color. It’s actually pretty close to the stain of our dining table and blanket ladder so I thought it tied everything in the room together!
Okay here are some before and afters! As always feel free to ask me any questions if you have them!
The picture I sent my husband from Goodwill!
This was the first blue that I painted the dresser, it definitely looked more royal in person than it did on the paint swatch, and I’m so glad I went back to get the darker shade!
Here you can see the difference between the first blue and the one we ended up using!
Painting around the hardware was tricky, I definitely need to go back and do some touch ups!
That looks fantastic! I love the color that you picked and I can’t believe how cheap you got it for. That’s amazing!
