MommyCon ATX 2017

Mommy Con was such a fun event to attend this year! I had seen Facebook ads about this event before but other than that I didn’t really know what it was. Turns out I had some friends go to it last year and they told me how much fun it was, so I felt lucky to be included as a member of the media team to be able to attend this year.

I was able to participate in two sessions of MommyCon this year, and both were so much fun. The Friday session, I was able to be a blogger representative for Ameda as they hosted their Not Your Mama’s Baby Shower event! The theme was 1950’s Ice Cream Parlor, so everyone was dressed up and we ate fried chicken, waffle fries, and ice cream sundaes. Ameda handed out some darling gift boxes and announced their new double electric breast pump (and gave two of them away!) and I was so excited to be involved in that.

The Saturday session of MommyCon was basically a huge gathering of women who came to learn, shop, and make new friends. From 9am – 4pm there were five or six different classes running every hour on different topics about womanhood and parenting. Some of my favorites included Scaredy Cat Potty Training, Birth, Breastfeed, & Babywear, and Having a Safe and Developmentally Appropriate Home for a Baby and a Toddler. The classes are taught by MommyCon founders, local artists, doctors, midwives, and anyone with knowledge to share. Also open all day is the exhibition hall with dozens of vendors ranging from small, mama started businesses to large corporations including Evenflo, Toy’s R’ Us, and Ameda. My favorite part of the exhibition hall was the babywearing lounge where I got to try on tons of different baby carriers to find one that I liked and would fit our family’s needs.

This really is a gathering, and you feel a sense of community with everyone you meet. There’s no judgement, and you are constantly encouraged to trust your instincts and feel supported by them. There is a huge focus on natural parenting and on non traditional methods, which I really appreciated because I felt like I was learning so much about different styles and techniques of parenting. The energy levels are so high, and with kiddos running around everywhere and moms and dads being involved and supportive it was a really wonderful thing to experience.

I hope to be able to attend MommyCon ATX again next year, I feel like I still have so much to learn and it will be fun bringing along a 10 month old baby girl with me! Let me know if any of you have been before, or if you have been to a similar event and how you felt about it! If you find that MommyCon is coming to a city near you and you would like to attend, use code CASEY17 to take $5 off your ticket price.
