I don’t think this blog post is going to do justice for how happy I am with my new smile and the entire treatment process through Smile Direct Club!
But I am going to try!
Four months ago, I scheduled an appointment at a SDC location here in San Antonio to get my 3D scan done. The experience was quick (less than 30 minutes) and super easy and casual. One of the techs took a 3D scan of my teeth and sent it off to an orthodontist that day, the orthodontist then reviewed the scan and developed a treatment plan specific to me.
Less than a week later a box of aligners showed up on my doorstep!
The thing that really sets Smile Direct Club apart is that everything can be done from home. If there isn’t a location close to you, SDC will mail you an at home impression kit to construct your treatment plan from. All of the aligners are sent to you at once, so you’re never stuck waiting for your next set and you never have to go to an appointment. There is an online chat support that you can contact at any time if you have questions or concerns about your aligners. I feel like this product was literally designed for busy moms who want to fix their smile but don’t have the time or energy to put into traditional orthodontic treatment!
Another thing that I can’t get over is the cost of treatment through Smile Direct Club. Growing up, I and my FOUR younger brothers all needed braces, and even with good insurance my parents shelled out about $5,000 for each of our treatments. The cost of the treatment that I did with Smile Direct Club was $2,000. Thats less than half the cost of typical braces! My parents have both questioned why this wasn’t available when we needed braces, and I’m just grateful it’s here now because I’m sure my kids are going to need it!
A little bit about what’s in the box:
The box that is shipped to you contains aligners for every week of your treatment. Everything is labeled clearly so it’s easy to see what you need and when! There’s also a case for storing your aligners, a couple of tools to make removing and wearing aligners easier, the best chapstick everrrrrr, and a teeth whitening kit! There are also some instruction guides and information on storing and cleaning your aligners.
The Process:
I wore my aligners for 22 hours a day every day! I noticed that if I was slacking one day (or the week we went to Disney) then the aligners fit a little more snug, so I’d try to be better at wearing them longer the next day. You switch aligners on weeks 1 and 2, and then wear the same set for weeks 3 and 4 to allow your teeth to rest and really settle into their new position. When it’s time to switch your aligners, Smile Direct Club sends you an email so you don’t forget to switch! I always switched mine at night because they were sometimes uncomfortable for the first few hours, but if I was sleeping then I didn’t notice it!
My Smile:
I had braces when I was a kid, but I failed to wear my retainer regularly so my teeth shifted and my bottom teeth especially were noticeably crooked. Not only are my bottom teeth straight now, but top teeth that I hadn’t realized shifted are back in position and my whole smile looks amazing! I literally can’t stop staring at my straight teeth in the mirror because it’s been so long since I’ve seen them that way!
Bottom Line:
I highly recommend this treatment to anyone wanting a straighter smile and wondering what options are out there! The typical treatment with Smile Direct Club is 6 months long and $2,000, compared to the 2 year and $5,000+ treatment from traditional braces.
