Updated Playroom Reveal – Shop Your Home Series

We have been in this house for almost a year now, and everything has pretty much stayed the same in terms of decor and furniture arrangement since then. Everything has been functioning well and I like the pieces we have, but recently I started feeling the itch to switch things up a bit!

It started with our office…the room that has never been finished since we moved in! It started out as Jared’s office, then a guest bedroom, then the gun storage room, and eventually turned into my office. It still serves as a guest bedroom too, and the challenge to get that room to be what it is now was a long road!

Anyways…when I found some new pieces for the office and my creative juices got flowing, I decided at 9:30pm the night before we had guests coming in to town to take everything out of our play room and start over! My husband walked in after a long day at school, took one look at what I was doing, and walked right back out haha. I find it easier to redecorate a space when I completely empty it out and start from scratch, so that’s always my first step!

If you have read any of my other home related blog posts, you know how much I love thrifting furniture and making it into my own. I also LOVE shopping my home and moving things around to make it all feel new without spending any money. By shopping around my home and taking some things out of the play room, I was able to completely change the feel of the room while still keeping it functional!

To see what it looked like before, and a photo of the room from when we moved in, check out the post HERE.

Here’s what it looks like now! This rug was a Bed Bath & Beyond sale find five years ago, and it has served us so well! I like how the larger rug opened up the space and made it feel roomier.

I also took out the kid’s teepee because they didn’t play in it very much and it took up a TON of space. I might do a ceiling canopy faux teepee sometime but we will see!

I moved the kids table and chairs out to our living room/dining room area and I like them so much better in that space! Now the kids can still eat at their table while they’re with the rest of the family, and they’re totally content doing crafts on the floor.

I tried to categorize each corner–there’s one for the kitchen, one for reading, one for toys, and one for crafts! I still want one of those IKEA cubby organizer shelves for better toy storage, but I haven’t figured that out yet and I want to have a plan before I buy something new.

I don’t feel like it’s completely finished yet, but the lighter rug, faux fiddle leaf fig (found on Amazon for a STEAL) and fewer toys make the space feel so much more open and kid friendly than before!
